SUMMARY:Historic Soap Making Demonstration
DESCRIPTION:Join Freida Schmidt as she demonstrates and explains one of the most common and historic methods of soap making. Schmidt will demonstrate the cold process that involves lye\, sodium hydroxide and a variety of oils. During the 18th and 19th centuries many families made soap from lye\, obtained from wood ash and rainwater along with animal fats. Soap making required hours of preparation\, but Schmidt will explain modern techniques that take the guesswork out of the process allowing many to enjoy it as a hobby or business. \nProgram is FREE and open to the public.
