Dozens of varieties of wildflowers\, many of which bloom for short periods are appearing in spring meadows\, wetlands\, and forests Visitors may find plants like bloodroot\, wild ginger\, Hepatica\, and Jack-in-the-pulpit. Naturalist–guide for this walk will be Albright College Biology professor emerita\, Dr. Susan Munch.\nBecause this is a “walk on the wild side” of the farm\, we ask that participants wear sturdy shoes. No flip-flops\, please! There may be wet spots and mud. The event is free; donations greatly appreciated! Rain or shine\, with only thunderstorms cancelling. Parking is on-site.

SUMMARY:Ice Harvest
DESCRIPTION:The annual Ice Harvest at the Historic Dreibelbis Farm will include a demonstration of antique ice harvesting tools and (weather permitting) cutting and harvesting ice blocks from the ice pond. We’ll explain how ice was hauled to and loaded in the ice house. \nThe first presentation will begin at 2:15 p.m. and a second presentation will be at 3 p.m.. We’ll offer horse-drawn sleigh or wagon rides for a small fee. A bonfire\, homemade soup and hot chocolate will be available and the farm grounds and nature trail will be open to the public. \nThe event is free to the public and will be held rain or shine\, with only blizzard conditions or pouring rain cancelling. If thin ice prevents walking on the pond\, a demonstration of tools and techniques will still be held. Attendees are encouraged to dress for the weather and be prepared to walk on an unpaved farm lane that may be icy or muddy. \nThe Historic Dreibelbis Farm is located on Route 143 south of the village of Virginville. GPS Address: 356 Hard Hill Road\, Hamburg\, PA.\nParking will be available behind the Virginville Grange.
