SUMMARY:Berks History Day at Nicholas Stoltzfus Homestead
DESCRIPTION:The Berks Heritage Council will be holding its inaugural Berks History Day Event to celebrate our local heritage. The event will be held on April 13\, 2024\, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, at the Nicholas Stoltzfus Homestead in Wyomissing\, 1700 Tulpehocken Rd.\, Wyomissing\, Pa. 19610. \nBerks History Day is being developed and hosted by nearly 20 museums and historic sites from across Berks County. The event will feature displays of unique historic artifacts\, participatory activities appropriate for all ages\, merchandise available for purchase\, a scavenger hunt\, food vendors\, prizes\, and a bounce house. Additionally\, knowledgeable guides will be offering tours of the Nicholas Stoltzfus house. \nThe event is free of charge and will be held rain or shine. \nThe Nicholas Stoltzfus Homestead is a stone-built English colonial-style house built in the early-1700s in Wyomissing\, Pennsylvania. After passing through the ownership of several families\, the property\, including the stone house and a barn\, was purchased in 1771 by Nicholas Stoltzfus and his son Christian Stoltzfus. \nThe Nicholas Stoltzfus family were part of the Old Order Amish Anabaptist group and are the progenitors for all the Stoltzfus surnames in America. Today the historical house is restored to accommodate tours\, special educational programs\, showcase Berks County Amish history and to experience colonial lifestyle from the 1700’s. nicholasstoltzfus.org
