SUMMARY:Choose Native Mini-Workshop
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE WEBINAR \nCommunity members\, volunteers\, and interested professionals are invited to register for this virtual mini-workshop focused on replacing invasive species with those native to Pennsylvania in landscapes and water gardens. Landscaping and water gardening activities often lead to the unintended introduction and spread of invasive plant species to our natural lands and waterways. Once established\, invasive species can degrade natural habitats by outcompeting native species for space\, light\, and nutrients. Invasive species can impact the food web by altering the plant community and decreasing the diversity of plants available for food sources\, habitat\, and shelter. Preventing invasive plant introductions by utilizing native alternatives in landscapes and water gardens is a viable solution. This Choose Native mini-workshop will introduce participants to native species options and creative ways to include native species in landscapes and aquatic designs. \nEVENT DETAILS \nThis free two-hour webinar will delve into the significance of Pennsylvania native species. \nWHEN \nApril 16\, 2024\n(6:00 PM-8:00 PM ET) \nWho is this for? \nProperty owners\nLandscapers\nThose wanting to learn more about invasive and native plants\nNative plant enthusiasts\nWhat will you learn? \nThe importance of Pennsylvania native species\nImpacts of invasive species in the built environment Ideas for utilizing native plants in the landscape\nManaging native species in landscapes and water gardens\nThis mini-workshop is hosted by Pennsylvania Sea Grant and Penn State Extension with a special guest presentation by Native Creations Landscaping Services. \nThis event is being offered at no charge to participants thanks to funding from the Richard King Mellon Foundation and our partner\, the Great Lakes Commission. \nRegistration is required to receive the link to access the webinar. \nRegistrants will also receive access to the webinar recording. \nRegister By\nApril 16\, 2024

Text “Sign up” to 717-585-0766.\nThe Center for Dairy Excellence is hosting a special “Protecting Your Profits” webinar on Friday\, March 22 from 12-1 p.m. Titled “Protecting Your Profits\, Protecting Your Margin with DMC” and led by Jayne Sebright\, Executive Director at the Center\, the webinar will feature Cynthia Walters\, Agricultural Program Specialist with the USDA. Walters will provide an overview of changes in the Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) Program for 2024. With the Farm Bill extended through December\, DMC enrollment is now open\, with dairy farmers having until April 29 to enroll in the margin-based insurance coverage program. The DMC margin has already been announced for January at $8.48 per hundredweight\, yielding a $1.02 indemnity payment for those farms that choose a $9.50 coverage level. \nIn 2023\, farms that enrolled in the DMC Program had an added layer of protection when milk prices fell to very low levels during the summer months. While futures prices do currently appear better than where they were in 2023\, there is still a lot of uncertainty in the marketplace. Protecting your dairy against margin risks is an essential tool in managing your business throughout 2024. \nIn addition to the 2024 DMC updates\, Jayne Sebright will provide a short recap on where dairy markets are and what factors could influence the margins going forward in 2024. \nIndividuals can join via conference call\, webinar\, or podcast format. A recording will be shared after the event. Make sure you are signed up for our email list to receive the recording. \nHow to Join:\nWebinar Format\nVisit www.centerfordairyexcellence.org/MarchPYP on Friday\, March 22 at 12 p.m. to launch the webinar and watch live. \nConference Call Format\nIndividuals who would prefer to connect via conference call can dial the following number on Friday\, March 22 at 12 p.m.: \nDial: 1-305-224-1968\nMeeting ID: 862 7281 5599\nPasscode: 302645 \nPodcast Format\nVisit www.centerfordairyexcellence.org/pyp to listen to a recording of the “Protecting Your Profits” discussion in podcast format and subscribe to get notified when new episodes are released. SUMMARY:VIRTUAL LIVE WEBINAR Addressing Climate Change Challenges through Vineyard Management Strategies
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE WEBINAR \nClimate change and dynamic weather patterns challenge management in agricultural production systems; what “worked” during one season may not be as effective in another season if weather patterns differ.
