Agricultural businesses are different from other types of businesses, and producers need to develop and maintain accurate, consistent financial and production records. Farm Sense satisfies requirements for the production and financial training modules for Pennsylvania borrowers of the USDA Farm Service Agency Borrower Training.
However, the course is open to anyone involved in agricultural business. In this instructor-led course, you will gain a better understanding of cash management, net worth, profit and loss, budgeting, risk management, and production planning through readings, educational videos, and practice questions. You will create a cash flow statement, balance sheet, and income statement, and will use these documents to determine your business’s liquidity, solvency, and profitability. The course instructor will review your financial documents and offer advice on how to improve them.
You will find a schedule in the course to help guide you through the course, and an instructor will regularly check in regarding your progress through the course.
Your work must be completed between March 1, 2023 and May 15, 2023. In order to receive your FSA letter, you need to complete all financial documents, quizzes, and the complete the borrower training statement. Your course work must be completed by May 15, 2023.
As you take Farm Sense, you will work through weekly and biweekly lessons. Read through the materials and watch the videos. When prompted, take a moment to review your learning by answering Check Your Learning questions. Much of your time will be spent working on your own financial documents.
To pass the course, earn a certificate of completion, and qualify for USDA Farm Service Agency borrower training, you must:
pass the section quizzes with a 70 percent overall score
