About the Webinar
American chestnut (Castanea dentata) was one of the most common and valued trees in forests across the Eastern United States until it was rendered functionally extinct by an invasive fungus, chestnut blight (Cryphonectria parasitica), in the 1930s. Despite the near eradication of the species, efforts to restore chestnut through traditional breeding, genetic modification, and searching for surviving trees have been ongoing. In this webinar, participants will hear from Sara Fern Fitzsimmons, Chief Conservation Officer at The American Chestnut Foundation, about the latest updates in all things chestnut restoration, like what is happening with modern technological techniques (including Darling58), traditional breeding efforts, and the future could hold for this much needed and loved tree. This webinar has been approved for one credit from the Society of American Foresters and the International Society of Arboriculture.
