The annual Cattle Feeders Day offers several beef-related workshops for area cattle producers. The event will be conducted Tuesday, Jan. 28 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Lancaster Farm and Home Center.
This year’s 56th annual Lancaster County Cattle Feeders Day offers a varied slate of speakers to help start the new year off for area beef producers.
“We really hope participants that come to Cattle Feeders Day to learn how to manage risks on and off the farm and get industry updates,” said Taylor Zahn, livestock extension educator and one of the organizers of the event. To help get that information to producers, organizers have pulled together an ag economist, veterinarian, a cattle producer well versed in risk management, and NCBA’s Colin Woodall to speak this year, along with other experts in the cattle industry.
The day will take place Tuesday, Jan. 28 at the Lancaster Farm and Home Center, Arcadia Road Lancaster, from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Registration is $20 and includes lunch.
Beginning at 9 a.m., Dr. Charley Martinez, assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, University of Tennessee, will discuss “Beef Market Outlook” followed by “Risk Management Considerations in a Volatile Market,” presented by Brandon Reeves, Executive Director of Cattlemen’s Insurance Agency.
Penn State Beef Specialist Dr. Tara Felix will give a Penn State research update before Dr. Lowell Midla, Dr. Lowell Midla VMD, MD, Merck Animal Health, delivers “Please. . . not another Biosecurity Talk.”
An annual presenter at Cattle Feeders Day, Colin Woodall, CEO National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, will share his ideas on the 2024 election’s impact on cattle producers.
For biosecurity, please wear clothing and boots that haven’t been in your barn.
Organizers appreciate pre-registration but will take day-of registrations.
