Fresh summer produce is always a delight, but fresh summer produce that’s grown and sold locally is even better! No tomato, ear of corn, or sprig of herbs that’s picked right in your area could ever compare for freshness and flavor to something shipped to the grocery store from miles away. In Berks County, PA, we’re lucky enough to live in a hub of agricultural bounty, with dozens of farms, markets and produce stands and stores to choose from throughout the growing season. It’s easy to enjoy the flavors of home, and Fisher’s Produce in Oley, PA is one of the best places around to do just that!
Fisher’s History
Not everyone can say that their business is in their blood, but if anyone can, it’s the Fishers. The Fisher family has been farming since 1791, and they’re now going ten generations strong in the family business cultivating their 200 acres of land with both cash crops and vegetables for sale in their produce store. When you want freshness, Fisher’s has you covered, with ears of corn picked from the field and put directly out for purchase on the very same day.
It’s not just farming, either. Kirk Fisher and his wife put their heart and soul into their business, with Kirk’s wife baking dessert delights like strawberry rhubarb pie, blueberry pie and shoofly pie, depending on what’s ripe. The Fisher roots go deep in the Oley area, and they’re committed to providing their friends and neighbors with nothing but the best.
Local Flavor
Corn is one of the main driving forces behind Fisher’s Produce and the family farm. Planted in March, their sweet corn is what they’re known for. Kirk Fisher proudly stated that his ears “won’t have the hard bite like corn in grocery stores,” instead providing the creamy, sweet, fresh and juicy flavor you can only get from local growers.
“People are concerned about being greener, and when you’re buying local, you’re always buying greener. You’re getting better quality across the board,” he said, describing the shift as an “exponential leap in quality.”
Seasonal and Sensational
The store also stocks produce and products from other nearby farms. From canned jellies and zucchini breads to cauliflower and potatoes, the shelves inside of Fisher’s Produce are a mouthwatering dream for anyone who truly appreciates quality and flavor in their food.
With over 200 years of history behind them and many more to come, Kirk Fisher had nothing but gratitude for the community that has allowed him and his family to continue their legacy.
“When you’re supporting local, that means supporting family farms. We really mean it when we tell you thank you. That’s how we continue to go as a 10th generation family farm.”
